Post-Irene Post

Good morning! I hope your weekend was lovely. Sorry for the lack of a post yesterday, but I was in NJ without power because of Irene. The hurricane was not nearly as bad as we anticipated, but it knocked our power out (my poor parents - it's still out!) and many trees are down blocking the roads, making it difficult to get where you're going. One great thing Irene brought with her was some cooler weather - yesterday felt like fall it was amazing! The trains to the city were up and running this morning, so I'm finally back! I have lots of work to catch up on so I'll leave you with a few things I am looking forward to after spending the long weekend with my family...

I cannot wait to read this book! My dad was telling me all about it and it sounds so amazing!

Every Labor Day weekend a fair comes to town with rides and games and culminates with the parade Labor Day morning and fireworks Labor Day night.

Finally Friday!

This has been one of the toughest weeks in a while, so I am beyond happy that it's Friday! I'll be escaping the city and spending the weekend with my family. Hopefully I will avoid the madness of the masses trying to flee the city as it will most likely be evacuated Saturday morning for Hurricane Irene! I am looking forward to getting "stormed in" with the family - cooking, playing board games, wine, old movies...I hope all of you on the East Coast stay safe, and those elsewhere have a great weekend.

My mom cheated and bought pumpkin coffee before fall -
but i'm looking forward to having it this weekend!

I got Apples to Apples a few Christmases ago, and it is now a family favorite! I highly suggest it.

And a really good movie....perhaps Waking Ned Devine
Happy weekend lovelies!

Summer To Do List

I can't believe summer is already over! I'd be lying if I said I were devastated by this realization, as I love fall more than anything, and the humidity in the city this morning is disgusting, but summer does have some great things to offer. Here is my list of 5 things to do in NYC before the summer comes to an end.

1. Go to Flex Mussels and try mussels for the first time. Added bonus, and if we're going to be honest here, perhaps the reason I wanted to go in the first place, their menu of Boozy Donuts! With flavors such as Maker's Mark Caramel, Absinthe Chocolate, and Margarita - who could resist?

Check out the full menu at Flex Mussels
2. Check out the Beekman Beer Garden Beach Club (quite the long name, huh?). This used to be Water Taxi Beach at the South Street Seaport, but has been cleaned up and looks so fun!

3. Make Margarita Popsicles! How great do these look??

4. Visit the NY Botanical Garden.

Waterlilies are just one of the beautiful flowers in bloom right now!

5. Visit Eataly - August 26 - 31st is Eataly's 1st Birthday!

Lost in Lockets

I have always wanted a locket - a pretty, vintage-looking necklace to carry pictures of the ones I love. I have bought a few cheap ones in the past, but they just never quite cut it. I am on the hunt for the perfect one and have found a few contenders!

Pinterest Therapy

Sundays are my favorite day of the week. There's a comfort to Sundays that is inexplicable, and calming. Sometimes, however, I get a case of "The Sundays". "The Sundays" is that bit of anxiety and gloom you get at the realization that the weekend is coming to a close and you have to head back to work (or school) the next morning.

Last night I got a bad case of the Sundays and my cure was some Pinterest therapy. For those of you not familiar with Pinterest - it is a must. It is described as "a virtual pinboard. Pinterest allows you to organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. You can browse pinboards created by other people to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests." It is incredibly addictive and beautiful. Here are some of the lovely pins that helped me get through The Sundays. (Also check out My Pinboards!)

Ethereal Haute Couture

Those who know me know my deep love for the fall. I have been waiting, albeit impatiently, for the fall - weather, clothes, food, and drinks. So this morning when I stumbled upon Elie Saab's Fall Winter 2011-2012 Haute Couture line I knew I had to share it with you and thought it might quell my fall craving (even for just a brief while).

The fabrics, silhouettes, and detailing are stunning! I had so much trouble narrowing down which looks to share with you, but you must watch the full show or slide show on their website (here) to see every look, and the way he transitions the colors!

Book Club

I have officially become one of those ladies...I have started a book club. I have been talking about starting one forever and decided that now was the perfect time to actually get one going. We have not chosen our first book yet, but we're having an "organizational meeting" (read: excuse to get together and drink wine) next week to iron out all the details and choose the first book. Here are some of my book club ideas for décor, hors d'oeuvres, and book selections!

Mirror, Mirror

In trying to makeover my room, I realized yesterday, I am in desperate need of a vanity to sit and be able to do my hair and make up. What girl doesn't want an ultra feminine, really beautiful space like that? I don't have much room for such a piece, but here are some that are inspiring me.
